Week 2

Day 1

Work through the Powerpoint on Charles Darwin writing down key and interesting points about his life.  Pay particular attention to dates and the length of years he spent studying at the Galapagos Islands.  Continue to research about what other discoveries Darwin made whilst on the island and note these down.

Day 2

Create a Boxing Up plan for a formal letter to the UK government detailing.  Plan each paragraph.  A simple structure could be the following:

Paragraph 1: Introduction - include how many months/years have been spent on the island, what are the conditions like in terms of weather and standard of living (food, water and health).

Paragraph 2: New discoveries - write about a couple of new discoveries that you have found, how did you do it, what do they look like, what ideas come into your head about them, has someone else got a different idea about them?

Paragraph 3: What are you missing about home - friends, family, food, weather, memories.

Paragraph 4: Goodbye - a couple of sentences to say what you will be doing next to do with your new discoveries.

Day 3

Write up your letter using your plan.  Tick off the things on your plan as you use them.

Day 4

Edit and improve your letter.  Use a dictionary online or visual thesaurus to improve spelling and vocabulary choices.  Read out your letter to those at home, what do they think of it?  Please if you can send them into me as I would love to see them.
